FAQS

  • Euthanasia can take place in a veterinary clinic, or in the comfort of your own home by a veterinarian.

Some veterinarians, like Dr Taylah have undergone specialised training in peaceful euthanasia to help you and your family through this difficult chapter. From the moment your vet arrives, to gentle handling and dignity.

  • A lot of people say “this must be the hardest part of your job as a vet”.

but “when your pet is in pain & is suffering, I know that this is the kindest thing we can do…The hardest part about my job is when we have waited too long & it becomes an emergency, or your pet passes by themselves…”

  • We hear very often “I would like my pet to pass naturally in their sleep”.

This type of passing is extremely rare, and in fact, is usually long, painful, and distressing for your pet.

It is common for families to call us in distress when their old pet starts passing at home and its not peaceful…we as vets dont know if we can get to the home in time to help make it better.

This is absolutely heart breaking for all involved.

  • Yes, we offer pet cremation! After your gentle home goodbye, or if your pet passes at home, we can gently transfer your loved one to our trusted crematorium.

We take extra care to ensure your pet is treated with respect, care and dignity every step of the way.

  • We don’t always get the privilege of planning a farewell for our best friend. If they start struggling and aren’t going to make it, the best place to take them is the closest emergency hospital or clinic.

Dr Taylah’s dog Penny passed away at age 7. One morning Penny couldn’t breathe properly - she was dizzy and couldnt stand up. This was completely unexpected as she was fine the day before. She was taken to the emergency clinic, but we couldnt save her… There was no time to prepare a special farewell. A clinic euthanasia was the only option. She still went fast, with no pain and it was the last gift we could give her. Dr Taylah instead celebrates Penny’s life but talking about her often and doing something special on her anniversary.

Dr Taylah hopes that one day she can gift her loved ones with a special goodbye, just like the ones she does for you.

  • Any point in your pet’s life

Managing pain in pets can occur at any point in their life, whether they're experiencing acute discomfort from an injury or chronic pain due to long-term conditions like arthritis.

We provide personalised treatment plans, which may include supplements, medications, rehabilitation, and lifestyle adjustments to support your pet's long-term health.

  • Extending Quality of Life (Months to Years)

Palliation refers to the care we provide when a pet’s disease or condition is manageable but incurable, with the goal of enhancing their quality of life. This can range from several months to even years, depending on the pet's condition.

Early intervention in managing pain and detecting illnesses can help delay the next stage: end of life, making it easier to prepare both emotionally and practically.

  • When interventions no longer help, we enter the end-of-life stage. Most pets are in the end-of-life stage for less than six months, with some only in this phase for days to weeks.

Dr Taylah can provide medication such as low-dose ketamine, opioids, anti-nausea, CBD oil and appetite stimulants, to keep your pet comfortable in their final days, weeks to months. There are usually affordable medciations you can use that you may already have at home!
