What are the Subtle Signs of Pain in Your Pet? 

How Can I Tell If My Pet Is In Pain?   

Some signs that your pet might show if they are in pain:  

  • Flinching, twitching or moving away when patting certain areas of the body  

  • Limping or skipping  

  • Moving stiff or slowly – especially when rising or laying down  

  • Laying only on one side  

  • When laying down keeps pressure off a certain leg  

  • Low head carriage  

  • Being less active or quieter than usual   

  • Sleeping more than usual, or unsettled at night  

  • Breathing faster than usual ( >30 seconds per minute )  

  • Unable to settle in one spot for long, seems agitated  

  • Seems grumpy or sad - any behavioural change   

  • Anti-social with people or animals when use to be social  

  • Any licking or chewing at the joints when resting on bed
