Rocky’s Remarkable Turnaround: From Pain to Playfulness
Intro
When our pets grow older, it can be heartbreaking to see them in pain and not know how to help. Rocky’s story is a beautiful example of resilience, love, and how the right care can make all the difference. His mum kindly shared their journey, and with her permission, we are sharing it here.
The Story
A couple of months ago my 9.5-year-old AmStaff, Rocky, slipped on the tiles at home. He seemed fine that night, but the next morning he was unable to put weight on his back leg, was panting heavily, and crying in pain. He already had arthritis in his hips, but this was different. After an emergency visit to the vet, x-rays, and being put on traditional pain medication, he got worse over the coming days. He didn’t want to eat, took himself away to sit by himself, had no life in him, and was simply not himself.
It got to the point that I thought I was going to have to say goodbye, as the pain was not subsiding, no matter what I was doing.
That’s when I had an appointment with Dr Taylah. Taylah took a holistic approach to his pain and added medications to his pain regime that our regular vet doesn’t regularly work with. Taylah was with us every step of the way, providing me with options and reassurance, as we found the best combination of medications and supplements.
Fast forward 3 months, and Rocky is doing amazing! He is back to his normal cheerful, energetic self, wanting to be involved in everything. His turnaround was remarkable. I went from thinking I was going to have to say goodbye, to looking forward to celebrating his 10th birthday later this year.
If you have an older pet who needs extra TLC, I highly recommend Dr Taylah. She will forever be my go-to vet as my pets age.
Closing Note
Stories like Rocky’s remind us of the strength of the human–animal bond, and how important it is to give our senior pets the comfort and care they deserve. Thank you to Rocky’s mum for allowing us to share this journey. Monthly arthritis injections are just the start of your elderly pet’s pain journey. There are a range of medications and supplements you may not have tried yet that could help your pet recovery from a speed bump or injury… it may not be over just yet.
